A KVAR Energy Controller from Covington Energy will save you thousands.

With a life expectancy of 25 years, saving 8-15% off your electric bill amounts to thousands of dollars saved.

  • With an average electric bill of $150 per month and the modest savings of only 8%, the savings in just 5 years add up to $720--nearly twice the cost of the unit!
  • Or, looking at it another way, the same conditions are the equivalent of an investment with a 36% yield. Good luck seeing a 36% increase in the value of your 401(k) or even just getting 36% interest from your bank.

Today's economy is rough. Between the mortgage crisis, the credit crunch, foreign oil dependency, and whatever comes next, there is enough concern about the future to go around. However, through it all, there is one simple rule: save energy, save money.

Homeowners: We can save you 8-15% off your home electric bill.

Business owners: We can save you 8-25% or more off of your business' electric bill for each motor you run, including those power hungry, energy intensive air conditioners.

How much money would you save in a year?

How can we achieve these results? Through a process called Power Factor Optimization (sometimes called Power Factor Correction). A considerable amount of electricity that comes into your home or business goes to waste when running inductive devices: motors. Whether the motors drive industrial equipment or are located in the air conditioners and appliances in a home, motors are wasteful.

Power Factor Optimization improves the power factor of the electricity you purchase from the utility to nearly 100%, which saves energy. When you save energy, you save money!

The best part is that you don't even need to change your behaviors or buy expensive equipment like wind turbines or solar panels to provide you with a lower electric bill.

Introducing the KVAR Energy Controller--the simplest and most cost effective way to reduce your electricity use through Power Factor Optimization, regardless of your motivation.

  • Want a smaller carbon footprint?
  • Are you concerned about gaining energy independence from the Middle-East?
  • Do you just want to save money and keep more of it in your pocket?

The KVAR Energy Controller will help to do all three.

While wind turbines, solar panels, and other equipment also save energy, they often take 10-15 years to pay for themselves even after government rebates and tax credits.

In contrast, the KVAR Energy Controller (with a manufacture set price of only $399 for a home unit) will likely pay for itself in less than 3 years--not counting tax credits that may be available to you. Additionally, financing may be available which would provide a positive cash flow for your business with no large outlay of capital. Additionally, if you are looking to invest in a solar or wind power system, the KVAR Energy Controller will reduce the size of the investment because you would need fewer panels and/or wind turbines to satisfy your electrical needs.

Other Ways to Save Energy

Even though the KVAR Energy Controller is, we believe, the easiest and most practical way to reduce your electricity consumption, we recognize that it is not the only way. The most effective way to save energy is to not use it. Naturally, this is not always possible. Below are several simple tips that can be used to take saving energy to the next level.

Let There Be Light

If a light is on in a room and no one is there to see it, does it still use electricity? YES! The generally accepted time frame is five minutes: if you're leaving the room vacant for more than 5 minutes, kill the lights.

Are there lights in your home or business that is always left on? Make a sign to remind people to turn it off--even better, install a timer or automatic switch so it is never left on unnecessarily.

Fluorescent lights have received some scrutiny for their mercury content that ends up in landfills when they are disposed of, but they still save a significant amount of electricity. What's more, the KVAR Energy Controller further reduces the amount of electricity purchased from the electric company to run it.

Turn It Off

TVs, consumer electronics, computers and peripherals, and many appliances all draw a small amount of electricity even when they are turned off. Obviously, they draw much more when they are on. Therefore, whenever such appliances are not in use, they should be turned off. If they are going to go unused for an extended period of time (let's say a few hours), they should be turned off at the power strip. Alternatively, the power strips can be plugged into a timer to guarantee that power is cut to these devices when they are least likely to be used.

A Difference of Degree

When it comes to the thermostat, set the temperature to the outer extremes of your comfort zone. If you can stand 78 degrees in the summer, more power to you (and less from the electric company). If you're comfortable in 65 degrees in the winter, your heating bill will thank you for it.

If you have fans in the house, run them every summer as they'll make you feel up to 5 degrees cooler without running the air conditioner. Fans run on far less electricity than air conditioning.

Kitchen Tips

A dishwasher uses 37 percent less water than washing by hand. That is, unless you have a split sink and keep soapy water in one basin and rinse water in the other--washing dishes this way can use half the water of a dishwasher.

To warm up or defrost small amounts of food, use the microwave, not the stove to save energy. Microwaves use half the electricty of a conventional electrical oven. Larger meals are better reheated in the oven and using the oven in the winter can also reduce the need to run the house's heater.

Keep that fridge closed! Keep the cool air in the box to save energy. Small shims placed under the front feet of the refrigerator will cause the door to close automatically when left ajar. Periodically inspect the refrigerator's seal: if a piece of paper can be easily removed after having the door closed on it, you may need to replace the seal.
